GAMING: KABAM!

12 Aug

gamers love!

KABAM! make MARVEL CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS which is sucking in more and more of my free time… The CEO of Kabam, Kevin Chou, wrote about ‘Traditional Retention Metrics in Mobile Gaming’ in an article for VENTURE BEAT  (VentureBeat describes itself as, ‘the leading source for news & perspective on tech innovation.’ )

With regards to retention:

‘We now think exclusively in terms of years — not days, weeks, or months.’

And words to make any gamer’s heart melt:

‘The simple fact is this: if optimization and monetization are the driving focus behind a game’s development, that game is set up for failure. ‘Today, mobile gamers need developers who passionately create games that people who love games love playing.’

Well I hope he truly does practice what he preaches because I really think THE MCOC formula really works for me… MARVEL SUPER HEROES, BEAT EM UP MECHANICS and ever more complicated ALLIANCE related BATTLING.

And that social pull of helping one’s fellow gamer, your teammate that really sticks. At WORK I am struggling to create better bonds with our Manila office, in GAME I am now trying to foster connections over half a planet with total strangers and then help communicate instructions in the heat of battle! Putting into place lines of communication, getting to know all the members and creating standard operating procedures…

I am not sure which is harder, but both are helping develop skills that are quite interchangeable between both worlds of WORK and PLAY!

LOTRO: Gently Holistically Improving Community

27 Jul
CORDOwitq

3rd version due to spelling mistakes…oops!

A reworking on the comment I made on the LOTRO PLAYERS Article, which I found linked on the LOTRO FB page – go and like it 🙂

Turbine Reaches Out to the LOTRO Community

Cordovan, the new LOTRO Community Manager (Looks like Frelorn went during the last TURBINE cuts :()has been posting on the  LOTROCommunity forums, an alternative forum to the official LOTRO forums. WOW this is a great step forward.

I arrived relatively late to the LOTRO party and I think the LOTRO community shine had started to wane. Don’t get me wrong it was then shining brightly, it is still, now 4 years later, an inspirational force to be reckoned with but it is far from the multi-faceted and connected happy family it had once been 🙂

Any attempt at stimulating interaction between the many diverse LOTRO community groupings can only be praised 🙂

Because of its ‘mature’ nature (age not content!) of LOTRO it has led to the creation of many diverse groups with varying opinions and points of view upon almost all aspects of the game… finding a common thread and unifying them all maybe impossible but at least approaching them and starting the conversation is amazingly positive 🙂

There are PVP’ers, RPG’ers, solo’ers, PVE’ers, cosmeticers(?), film makers, musicians, hardcore and casual gamers, bloggers, podcasters and twitchers, youtubers and every spin-off and combination, among others we cannot even imagine (I did once imagine of an in game LOTRO Acting Troupe – Commedia dell’arte!) And they all have vested interest in LOTRO, they all have strong opinions and nowadays they all voice them separately.

There are so many creative LOTRO blogs, websites, resources out there, some may have gone to sleep and some (like my own) ticks along slowly but they are still useful and incredible informative. Having others to share creative gaming ideas, not always LOTRO ones, I found so inspiring and many a time it incentivated me back into LOTRO to try something new or different.

Their creativity, leads to our creativity which can be feedback into our LOTRO gaming 🙂

It’s a positive vicious circle, or a virtuous circle even!

Cordovan’s post:

“Hello! I wanted to create an account here just to introduce myself, and see what’s going on. I know there’s been some animosity between the community folks and this forum in the past, but AFAIK it didn’t involve me (much?), so I figure this new era of sorts is a good time to say hello. I’m the current Community Manager for LOTRO and DDO (and to the extent AC is still supported, Asheron’s Call.) I’m an old-school gamer and pen and paper nerd. Ask me about my THACO!

There’s a lot of work to do in the LOTRO community in the coming weeks, and I plan to do it. If you have a short bullet-list of what you feel is most important for the community (not development, that’s a different thing), lemme know.” – Cordovan

And leading on from that, as it does so many times with Tsu’s LOTRO blogging, I found something that sparked a memory; the use of holistic by Cordoven led me to instantly remember Douglas Adams’ – ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’. What an awesome book, please read if it passed you by, if you laughed out loud to Hitchhikers, like myself, you will love it!

Holistic: characterized by the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.’

Well I can get behind that and I hope it is possible to apply to the LOTRO community 🙂

And as I digress down Tsu’s rabbit hole of a blog post I found another quote from the same book:

“Sir Isaac Newton, renowned inventor of the milled-edge coin and the catflap!”
“The what?” said Richard.
“The catflap! A device of the utmost cunning, perspicuity and invention. It is a door within a door, you see, a …”
“Yes,” said Richard, “there was also the small matter of gravity.”
“Gravity,” said Dirk with a slightly dismissed shrug, “yes, there was that as well, I suppose. Though that, of course, was merely a discovery. It was there to be discovered.” … “You see?” he said dropping his cigarette butt, “They even keep it on at weekends. Someone was bound to notice sooner or later. But the catflap … ah, there is a very different matter. Invention, pure creative invention. It is a door within a door, you see.”
Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

I just had to investigate further: to find out if Newton really did invent the catflap?

But as always Wikipedia provided the answer: ‘In an apparent early modern example of urban legend, the invention of the pet door was attributed to Isaac Newton (1642–1727) in a story (authored anonymously and published in a column of anecdotes in 1893) to the effect that Newton foolishly made a large hole for his adult cat and a small one for her kittens, not realizing the kittens would follow the mother through the large one.[6] Two Newton biographers cite passages saying that Newton kept “neither cat nor dog in his chamber”.[7][8] Yet over 60 years earlier, a member of Newton’s social circles at Trinity, one J. M. F. Wright, reported this same story (from an unknown source) in his 1827 memoir, adding: “Whether this account be true or false, indisputably true is it that there are in the door to this day two plugged holes of the proper dimensions for the respective egresses of cat and kitten’ – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_door

An old girlfriend of mine used to crack up telling a story of how a friend used to keep her keys in her cat flaps… I suppose you had to be there!

So Cordovan has flung open the door (and maybe the catflaps!) to the community and I hope it grasps his outstretching hand to work together and put the communal house in order. LOTRO community was the GREATEST, is GREAT and can be the GREATEST again.

“Let’s think the unthinkable, let’s do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.”
― Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

TURBINE, Cordovan and LOTRO Community please don’t eff it up again!

COC

Nine whines on and on…

Screenshot_2016-07-20-12-55-39

Strange times in COC as my th9 base is finally nearing completion with only 2 archer towers (1 ongoing) air defenses and teslas (1 also ongoing)  needing their final upgrade before the long wait while maxing walls and other buildings… barracks for troops I don’t use… and of course maxing out all the troops I should be using…my Golems are still lv1 and If I want to start goblin Knifin I will need to lv gobs to 6…

Screenshot_2016-07-20-12-56-44

And Queenie is now lv12 and king lv11 …a lot of work to be done here too!

Screenshot_2016-07-20-12-56-16

Been shaky time in the clan as leader went off scoutin without tellin us and it was a scary experience… we are down to about 10 active members… and only 3 of them are th9 or above… and one of the most active th8 players left while leader was away! So looks like we will start to have to recruit or the weekly WAR at the weekend which I enjoy will become hopeless! It’s a tough time and if it worsens I may have to start lookin for a new clan!

Other than that I think I have been with the same base design for too long and I am now in the process of a major redesign…which generally involves a lot of online searching and then a lot of modification. And 9 times out of 10 me settling for a variation on my old base design…

My raiding consists of cookin up 20 giants, 3 healers, 11 wizards,  6 hogs, and 4 archers or variations of that backed up with 1 rage 1 heal 4 earthquake and a poison spell. As stated above 99% of time clan castle is empty!  I normally start with a mini queen walk then blast a hole and drop in giants, king and wiz to get to the core… I cross fingers that they either stay with Queen or Giants…HOGS are to go in and take out air defence in the hope of saving healers… Overall is works as in I earn loot but the strategy only hangs together 50% of the time!

Finding the rich dead bases a constant pleasure has become a rarer treat, I actually miss them!

I try to keep my resources used to avoid being too tempting a target but can see as I get to the point of upgrading to th10 I will need to toughen up the base as I am not convinced at its ability to protect my loot!

MCOC

MARVEL contest of champions MCOC is also very busy at the moment and as we have now quite a tough alliance its startin to get serious… been given officer responsibilities and the minimal ingame tools to carry out the duties are quite frustrating as is my sons and wife running off with the ipad at inopportune moments! If I am to get more serious about MCOC I will actually need a dedicated tablet for it…  and I can’t see my wife falling for that just yet!

tsu4star

Have now a small rooster of 4-star heroes headed by a Rank 3 Black Widow (duped) and the rest all ready to get there but the dreaded grind for alpha crystals is needed. I was even tempted to spend $30 to get one the other day (due to frustration!) but quickly came to my senses! I am still F2P, not spent a cent!  Will upgrade my colossus next to have 3 heroes at 2000+ rating… and am tempted to get my Dr. Strange to R3 as well… My 3-star heroes and starting to get maxed out and are stronger than my yet to be upgraded 4 stars… And my 2-Stars are over half way to being maxed! – this is important as it enables me to actually progress much more easily (maintain a x3 bonus for longer) in the 3-star Arena battles where I basically earn Gold for upgrading… 4-star arena battles are still tough and time consuming, I am able to get to the ranking stage (200,000+pts) but its not easy or enjoyable…

CR

And finally my last game is Clash Royale, I still play daily but the frustration is building in that I am at level 8, all my deck of normal cards is maxed at 9 and my skeleton horde and knight are stuck…I simply never get any new cards and I don’t even see them up for sale at 2000 gold per pop! And when I do get to the inevitable level 10 upgrading point each card will cost 8000GP!

Screenshot_2016-07-20-13-03-17

The battles I take part in are frustrating in the most part in that my opponents generally have much higher cards and I have grown to loath HOGS and Witches… even dropping back down to arena 4 has not improved my chances… And even worse are the spawner matches with an emote totting idiot! Wish there was a surrender button cos its so tempting to smash my phone after one of these…

And I will not start on the insane, inane and idiotic tournament system they introduced… in a game where you sometimes have to wait for half a day for a reason to play… SUPERCELL u dropped this one badly!

I can see me stopping playing sooner rather than later and it’s a shame as there is a simple great game hidden under all the P2W fluff!

So casual gaming continues as the long drought of LOTRO continues.

Update: Gaming draggin!

1 Jun

A rare thing nowadays a blog from tsuhelm. My MMO’ing remains locked into nothingness, indeed I logged into LOTRO once since the anniversary event ended! And I stayed no longer than a minute 😦 I thought the event had broken my drought… it had not, it was a blip of activity. It looks like I missed the daily grind but was not prepared to put in the extra effort to do more.

So casual gaming it is then: As I described in my April post ‘LOTRO Back Again’  I am plodding onwards with CoC, mid th9:

Screenshot_2016-06-01-08-50-12

My clan is getting active for some unknown reason… 3 wars in 6 days! Its been fun, I actually did quite well in the last war and that was without my Queen, now lv7! My hogs are over halfway to lv5 which should make my GoWiHo much more effective. And clan castle upgraded to lv5 with 30 clan troop capacity combined with clan level now being lv5 allows me to house a lv5 Golem which is tough as hell!

Screenshot_2016-05-30-17-29-22.png

So being mid Town Hall is always nice, but am slowly running out of affordable upgrades and simply do not have enough time to upgrade all the troops I would like to: My golems are not upgraded, my peccas are only lv2, my drags are lv3, my barbs are still lv 5… (my balloons are only lv3, I don’t use em!):

Screenshot_2016-06-01-08-52-35.png

So the chore of maxing out th9 will drag on and on… longer even than maxing out dragons!

And when I am not playing with my CoC I can squeeze in some CR… now I am lv7 with most of my cheep F2P deck at lv8, so the chore is simply to save gems n gold to max cards to lv9, (4000 gold a pop and 400 of each card needed) I have had some fun matches but it is mostly tedious Arena 4 combat, pretty brainless stuff, fun when it works but up against a skilled player the game drags!

Screenshot_2016-05-18-18-20-09.png

And that leaves Marvel: Contest of Champions which to be honest I don’t get to play as much as I would want as its difficult to detach my eldest from the ipad! (It does not run on my phone or the kid’s cheep tablets!)  Also being on the ipad I dont really have an easy way to access screenshots from work! But I have been enjoying the ‘Civil War’ event they have been running since the release of Captain America: Civil War… Not only did Kabam! include the themed quests expected they introduced yet more tasks and even altered the interface depending on which side you chose (you can change every 15 days if you so wish!) and this just added to the desire to play!

But the downside is that there are yet more interesting heroes to ‘win’ if lucky or extremely dedicated, or, of course not me, deep pocketed!  Which all add to your hero rooster which all need levelling. Add in the terrible WAR matches, which when they are balanced are great but mostly descend into farce and hopelessness! Even the longer running alliance quests are not exactly riveting stuff, the rewards pail to the WARs but the interaction with team-mates is more focused and easier!

SO basically I am enjoying my casual gaming but it sure does drag!

LOTRO: back again…

18 Apr

I actually got online in LOTRO this weekend.

Woot!

…for about 20 mins before my kids came and kicked me off the computer.

…oot!

I was itching to get back into LOTRO the whole weekend… was this due to a desire to get back into the newly updated LOTRO? Or due to my growing malaise with casual gaming?

I have been playing:

CoC for must be nearly a year and I can imagine I will keep playing but it is not exactly immersive, long army build times and even longer building upgrade and research times keep this interesting but not exactly relaxing or even a place to spend time having GAMING FUN.

Clash Royale, the new ‘card battler’ game has its moments but they are getting further and further between… and I find myself thinking of developing a good team in maybe 5 years time by simply collecting the free chests; which if you think about it is not exactly gameplay! Its advancement simply for the sake of advancements sake! I had a rare match which was actually fun the other day, where both players were attacking and counter attacking and I lost with his King’s castle on the brink of falling too!

And my main time sink and what has eaten up my morning gaming sessions has been MARVEL Contest of Champions; a basic beat-em-up with collecting mechanics mixed with social grouping and peer pressure and almost constant new rewards to work for individually and very cleverly collectively! I find there is always some kind of incentivation to grind out a new quest, level a hero or beat up the silly computer controlled opponent in yet another ‘versus’ match! And that’s not including the month long story quests for newer heroes and the daily contests needed to unlock upgrade items for your favourite heroes!  The graphics are great, the game runs very smoothly on the family ipad, the sound effects are even pretty atmospheric. Wanting to level Dr. Strange my favourite 4star hero is my main goal but getting Black Widow 4 silver stars and by far my heaviest hitter and Groot my first ever 4 star and others to their max, and being able to take on the game on heroic for even better prizes and maybe even one day getting a 5 star hero… oh dear can you see the addiction….

Oh and I love superheroes and have done so from when I was a kid, and my sons love the game too, my youngest even to the point of claiming to have HULK inside him! Which we constantly remind him he does NOT! My eldest loves to irritate me by using up hard earned in game gold or credits!

But… But… But… its getting tedious and I am starting to realise that it is just a pointless exercise in grinding up levels to get the same heroes (for the most part) stronger and stronger, whereas the core game of beat-em-up is pretty basic and the ‘vs’ mode is quite obviously an AI played version of player selected hero line up! Even this basic beat-em-up would be awesome if head to head with other players. Then no ‘got-to-get-em-all’ gimmick would be needed. Mind you then why am I not just playing Street Fighter?  Oh how I would love to have an arcade SF machine in the living room, exercise n gameplay every morning!

Oh how I digress…

Instead of the latter I am tempted to get back into the lukewarm water of LOTRO MMO gameplay! It has stories, the ME world, the long term grind, mediocre graphics (well on my wife’s non gaming PC I push it to high quality graphics for stationary screenshots!) old school MMO questing, old school MMO advancement…but it offers constant gaming FUN. ‘Offers’, you have to find it but when you find it is even sometimes fantastically immersive and surprisingly GREAT FUN!

I was really enjoying the Bingo weekly adventure, and have my one legged hobbit Opopa fan-fiction project to continue…

Tsukuld was levelling nicely in ROHAN, solo mounted combat crapness ignored, it was enjoyable.

Diverse alts dot the spectrum of levels  and character types throughout LOTRO for diversions sake.

The server consolidation and lag issues arrived and my interest waned markedly… my RW existence has become more time consuming, work is busy (too busy!), kids getting older and more demanding, wife, well is WIFE! Less weekend time to play, fewer long immersive sessions which drove the smaller weekday pre work sessions… I have long battled for an early evening gaming slot where I can log in the same time as my mainly European kin mates… rather than catching them mostly ‘out to lunch’/’working’ during my Argentinian early morning sessions.

I have always loved LOTRO, but I grew tired of the repetition, grew tired of the samey gameplay, grew tired of my RK’s combat rotations, and I found I was not finding FUN often enough,  I am back but I don’t know for how long I will last before I grow tired again!

I hope I find lots of FUN in LOTRO 18.1!

CoC: OOPsdate 11!

7 Jan

CoC after update 11: The snow is still falling in game and resource boosting for the festive season has been extended.

Screenshot_2016-01-07-13-17-59.png

But SUPERCELL have not been so super since they released U11.

New shields and guards…

TOWN HALL inside please…

Farming… Difficult now and resources once farmed are quite likely to be lost again… especially as the process of farming quickly depletes any shield… more farming needs doing… takes longer to find a farmable base and is noticeably harder to farm the base. The occasional dead treasure chest of a fat unprotected base wearing it’s wealth on the outside have become rare beasts indeed.

The overall effect of this? Disenchantment from all… not enough resources to build, to expand, too much wasted time between ‘actions’ in a slow game that is a killer.

And, as normal for game companies, SUPERCELL ignored their player base since the update and the critics became more critical as the silence persisted. Yesterday they finally responded with an underwhelming apology and list of plans to fix resources. For me it was nice to see a company not fold or back down on changes they had made to alter the game: no reversion to old mechanics, shields and guards will remain but resource management will be worked upon… Ok good you have a vision but it would have been much better customer relations to pump out this message right away and keep pumping it out to all the critics…

Gaming companies, when will they learn; communication is more important than code!

I recommend this youtube vid for another perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhAQtAo4FCY

Well as many players have been saying the changes do NOT destroy the game only change it. So adaption is needed, changes to playstyle a necessity and expectations of a constant ‘easy ride’ removed. I have now simplified my attacking style from a quite complex healer backed giant raid backed up with archers barbs(inc king) n minions to a much more basic GIARCH attack. 21 Giants, 88 Archers and 6 wallbreakers – whatever is in the clan castle a mix of archers normally and 1 rage, 2 heal and 1(2) poison spells. It’s not EPIC, it doesn’t excite me as my old attack did when all the diverse elements all work as planned but it generates a consistent inflow of elixir and gold… even Dark Elixer has not been an issue since I turned th8! And I am approaching crystal league for the first time and I am not even trying!

My base design is basic and I am sure needs improvement but it has been functional and has even surprised 1 or 2 attackers… it is stronger than it looks! Although the idiot that threw over 30 hogs to their death was beyond belief…

Screenshot_2016-01-07-13-19-36

I don’t have a daily 3 hour commute to fill and thankfully as my attempts to BARCH/BAM, with my lowly unmaxed th8 troops, were a disaster. Quickly topping up resources with quick farming attacks has gone! But I do miss the intense fast activity this provided in an otherwise slow inevitable rise to the bigger th’s… although at 1 point I did think I had got stuck in a negative spiral with my attack troops costing more than my loot and being raided constantly!

But the Philipino clan, TSU, keeps chugging along. We had some drama over new-year with a co-leader abusing their power but all has settled again and the down to earth clan is slowly chugging forward. A little bit more organization of clan troop donations could help all but generally we all help each other as much as we casual gamers can.

I cannot see myself removing CoC from my mobile anytime soon.

PS: My nr1 son installed CoC on his tablet and I helped him over the first few days and I really enjoyed the thrill of building a base quickly, to see upgrades happen within an hour was a joy… that thrill is unfortunately lost later on… a pity! He has since bored of CoC and is back playing more basic, childish fair…

TSU’s gaming wrap for 2015…

22 Dec

Well obviously I will start with LOTRO…

It has been announced that LOTRO in 2016 plans to increase the level cap  to 105… as well as getting to ‘THE BLACK GATES!’

http://www.lotro.com/en/game/articles/letter-executive-producer

Yeah an odd number that but stretches that finishing line for my RK Tsukuld to 20 levels away…

I have just moved from expansive ‘quinta’ with swimming pool to tiny inner-city apartment. Kids will be getting full time education next year, wife may be able to start working again and maybe at last this will turn the family direction in a positive way… Argentinian inflation and economic woes have stymied our comfortable dream! Now no more hour n a half commutes to work… I can walk in 30 mins 🙂 No more rising before dawn to grab an hour of LOTRO before 3 hours of travelling, 9 hours of working, to return to family duties and eventual sleep (if lucky!).

I hope to have more time for gaming and life in general. The kids will miss the pool this summer but will be able to join clubs (kung fu starts tonight:)), visit museums, get out and about and meet people. Me, myself and I as well!

So my wife’s computer has now been repaired to be picked up soon. LOTRO to be installed and played again…yippee, Withy has now opened server transfer… my kin is active and busy by the sound of it on Laurelin.

CoC my commute diversion since latest update has got more grindy…th8 and playing is mostly like running through mud… it still has its moments but am far from interesting in playing… more an idle thought lolling in the background.

My kids have got me into MARVEL Contest of Champions on the ipad (gift from my mum :)) …fun to gained from basic fighter… has rekindled my interest in Marvel superheroes… my comic collection, inheritance in trust for the kids, locked half a world away in my Mum’s attic, pined after. Am tempted to also install MARVEL HEROES MMO on the PC as well, to be played with the kids right, who am I kidding…the wife! LOL

And EVE… what of that glorious space game that instigated me to create a second blog… I hope to get back into space at some point, let’s see how my new found gaming time goes.

I also have an invite to join HeadBurro in GW which may just run on the new improved computer…

Anyway, in these festive times here are some tunes to celebrate the higher level cap:

U2 Elevation

Red Hot Chili Peppers Higher Ground

Higher Ground – Stevie Wonder

Cypress Hill – I Wanna Get High

Erma Franklin-Higher And Higher

Marvin Gaye – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

May be treating myself to a new BMX this Xmas… (its been 10 years since I last had one) …so I can hop to work…

BMX bunny hopping…HIGH!

And 2016 is already just around the corner…

Who knows where the time goes – Fairport Convention

COC: What the…?

17 Sep

Yeah I am having a forced leave of absence from LOTRO (…and EVE) due to wife’s PC dying… in its last days I was occasionally able to log in to get my LOTRO hobbit gifts but was unable to do much more before the CPU overheated and died…

And what timing, my mum was over for her annual visit for 3 weeks and even though I managed to take a weeks annual vacation in conjunction with my Mummy’s visit work is chronically understaffed and ergo I am working like a mad beaver. Not even time for silly drawings :(… well we all need downtime and I still pumped out a few of them.)

So how is this little gaming junky surviving… well not so well!

My only gaming at all has been on my android phone…grabbing those idle moments to experience the black on white pleasure of seeing:og_mainpage

…flash by, to be replaced by the pleasant green and cartoon like town replete with walls n small animated denizens. Yeah I have my little virtual ‘town’ in Clash of Clans… you could say that I have been playing with my CoC!

Screenshot_2015-09-17-16-33-15

And I am really enjoying it, not in the same way I enjoy an immersive game of LOTRO and not in the way I enjoy getting frustrated in EVE Online… but in a relaxing, ever growing, slowly changing trip towards the next Town Hall level up and its consequential awards and game changing implications in base design and battle strategies. Its a slow ZEN like activity, where not doing much and having to wait is actually rewarding. And I do have an almost guaranteed 3hrs of commuting to fill each day…

There are of course moments of intense action (attacks) and times of complete frustration (Oh did I really just fuck that attack up that badly!) and even moments of sublime stupidity (Why did I just use nearly half of my slowly earned gems to finish building those barracks – compounded by even more stupidly letting my nr.1 son play One Eye (Pudding Monsters) on phone only to find him in CoC spending the other half of my gems!)

I am now about to upgrade to TH7… all my structures are maxed out (well except for my gold mines and they are catching up fast!)

I am in a nice relaxing mainly Filipino Clan…’Tsu Clan’, they didn’t name it after me but it is nice to see ‘TSU’ slowly rising up the clan leaderboard 🙂 The other clan members are helpful and nice, very chatty mostly in Taglog, but this post is due to this mornings chat with Bhagwan about me having sons and being ‘older’ than most within the clan… I gather I am probably the Grandad of the clan but that is just another wonder of online gaming that fun can be had by mixing with gamers of all ages. None of it really impacts the gaming itself rather it just adds to the experience.

4 barbies

I do not know how long my wife’s computer will need to be fixed but I do know that I will probably be playing CoC for sometime to come, long after my morning sessions of middle earth in LOTRO and occasional deep immersions to outer space in EVE Online have started again.

United colours of CoC

United colours of CoC!

GAMING: Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want!

10 Aug

Or no I wont, cos I don’t really know what I really really want!

spice girls

And most GAMERS don’t either…

Great post by BRAX on Gaming Conversations.

http://braxwolf.com/2015/08/08/what-do-gamers-really-want/comment-page-1/#comment-4309

and related piece by Syl on Green is the new Green.

http://mmogypsy.com/2013/09/green-is-the-new-green-why-none-of-this-really-matters-but-its-fun-all-the-same.html

SO WHAT DO GAMERS WANT?

It’s like watching your favourite movie ever, when you were 12… again 20 years later and finding it banal!

But we are human beings and have the most amazingly complex set of emotional and psychological sliders in our heads that I think enable us to enjoy stuff and different moments in different ways. Being consistent and marketing games at such a complex audience is impossible. Only the brave and foolhardy persist…

I have always said originality, fun and passion from the game maker is always appreciated much more than anything else… I may not like your game but I will hi five your spirit… And you never know, tomorrow my head, may, more likely than not, be somewhere else and those sliders may have realigned somehow and I find myself having fun in your game.

Thanks fools… this song is dedicated to you!

Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want,

So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really really really wanna zigazig ha.

If you want A future forget THE past,
If you wanna TO get GAMING better make it fast,
Now don’t go wasting precious GAME time,
Get your act together IT WILL be just fine

I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really really really wanna zigazig ha.

If you wanna be A GAMER, you gotta get with my ONLINE friends (gotta get with my friends)
Make it last forever GAMING never ends,
If you wanna be A GAMER, you have got to give,
Taking is too easy, but that’s the way it is.

What do you think about that now you know how IT IS,
Say you can handle GAMES are you for real,

Haffle from Level Up Haffle (formally the Malaysian Gamer blog) has liebered me …it’s no hassle so I’ll hustle some answers!

Tsuhelm/TsuEveCreative, quirky, fun and entertaining with everything Lotro and Eve, Tsu’s brilliant mind will be suited for this!’

WOW if I ever write a book I want that on the cover! THX 🙂

The Questions

How did you get into blogging?

I had tried to blog at its height when I was out travelling: 2 years Spain, Europe tour and then South America. But I was uninspired and soon stopped. After settling down in Argentina, bored at work, I had just started to get into LOTRO big time, I decided to start a gaming blog, this time I simply couldn’t get the dammed top back on and my madness has been pouring out ever since… surely a mismanagement of time at work but I do not regret a single word blogged!

Describe yourself using a song…

FIRESTARTER – Prodigy…all punky and spiky on the outside but inside am just a big old soft pop kinda guy!

Favourite video game character and why.

Oh this is gonna be a tough one, historically would be Sonic cos it was the first ever gaming character that caught my imagination in game and without!

What was the first video game you played?

Probably space invaders…

My top 15 games, chronologically ordered: https://tsuhelm.wordpress.com/2014/03/25/lotro-how-the-hell-did-i-get-here/

Favorite snack while gaming?

Beer…or whiskey… not really a snacker more of a glugger!

If there was one video game out there that you’d like to see made into a movie (that isn’t already a movie or in production), what would it be and why?

Vagrant Story cos I just want to see more of the twisted world of Valendia, and if they made a movie they may even make another game!!!

Describe your perfect holiday.

Beach, waves, surf, beer, frisbee, happy kids n wife, good food, good weather (but not so good that it removes the waves!) and friends. FUN! Maybe a good book or some portable gaming. Throw in a great pub and a pool table, a swimming pool and I am pretty much in heaven.

Beer, wine, liquor or alcohol free?

Beer (although I have cut back to only on special occasions), so nowadays its wine, wine, and wine. I do have rather good taste in cocktails too… I find nothing wrong in drinking a well-crafted cosmopolitan! Oh and a nice single malt is a luxury I rather like from time to time, the closest I can afford in Argentina is a glass of JD every so often!

If you could work at a game company/developer of your choice, which would it be and why?

SEGA or SQUARE … cos I am not WORTHY! I would be a willing door mat for them!

What was in your opinion, the worst video game you’ve ever played?

Too many to list, way too many!

Kindle or books?

BOOKS! Pages were invented for turning…My fav books post
