LOTRO: TP Grind for Quest Pack DONE!

10 Apr

Thanks to a 1 legged hobbit on RP server Laurelin, Opopa in Breeland, saved the day and did enough slaying of spiders, bandits and orcs (all completed including ADV); as well as basic deeds for wights and barghests; ruins, dunedain and barrow down exploration; and finally Bree rep. I was able to get Lothlorien Quest pack in the 20% sale at 556 tp with 1tp left over!

Burglar play was quite fun…especially liked that he looks like he runs as if on speed – is that the hobbit run animation? Not helped by useless daggers (lv10!) and was amazed to see how expensive a busy server AH is! 7gp for lv20 cyan jewelry! And it may be busy but no lv20-30 daggers on sale!

If you can help my poor helpless 1 legged hobbit on Laurie give him a PM, even better invite him into a nice kin! I am sorry he is a bit of a lazy beggar, a drunk and a thief… a true RP hobbit burglar!

quest packs

Only 4 more packs to go at the moment… Next up will probably be Wildermore and Gondor so can finally get to level cap with my RK…lingering in Rohan at the moment at lv77! Obviously will probably distract myself by wandering off and doing something else before then… TP grinding sounds useful… but also have Forochel and now Lothlorien to explore…

Oh wonderful LOTRO distractions…

LOTRO: RP Sillyness! [GW2!!!]

9 Jun

I have actually enjoyed casual RP in LOTRO a couple of times…my longest RP exchange was via letters to an Armourer on the Landy Captain Tsudryt would send an in character mail requesting armour and or equipment and the armourer would send an in character reply. Me myself and I have taken a pause from Landy, and I think Tsudryt’s Armourer as well…

Also have Opopa, a one legged hobbit burglar, hopping around Laurelin THE RP SERVER…avoiding all RP interaction so far…and see enough of other players that would indicate that most of the time other players do the same. Really…the end of ME is at hand…surely your adventurer should not return to Bree to pick flowers!

Head Burro has an issue with a RP guild in denial of the Living World stories in GW2…

Kind of reminded me of a certain famous comedy sketch from a certain group of British comedians…

MR. PRALINE – John Cleese

SHOP OWNER – Michael Palin

Mr. Praline: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this story what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique.

Owner: Oh yes, the, uh, the Living World…What’s,uh…What’s wrong with it?

Mr. Praline: I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it, my lad. Its dead, that’s what’s wrong with it!

Owner: No, no, Its uh,…its resting.

Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a dead story when I see one, and I’m looking at one right now.

Owner: No no its not dead, its, its restin’! Remarkable story, the Living World, idn’it, ay? Beautiful storyline!

Mr. Praline: The storyline don’t enter into it. It’s stone dead.

Owner: Nononono, no, no! Its resting!

Mr. Praline: Now that’s what I call a dead story.

Owner: No, no…..No, Its stunned!

Mr. Praline: STUNNED?!?

Owner: Yeah! You stunned it, just as it was wakin’ up! Living Worlds stun easily, major.

Mr. Praline: Um…now look…now look, mate, I’ve definitely ‘ad enough of this. That story is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not ‘alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein’ tired and shagged out following a prolonged chapter.

Owner: Well, its…its, ah…probably pining.

Mr. Praline: PININ’ ?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did it fall flat on his back the moment I got ‘im home?

Owner: The Living World prefers keepin’ on it’s back! Remarkable story, id’nit, squire? Lovely wordage!

Mr. Praline: Look, I took the liberty of examining that story when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been standing in the first place was that it had been NAILED there.

Owner: Well, o’course it was nailed there! If I hadn’t nailed that story down, it would have twisted reality, bent the game-world apart, and VOOM! Feeweeweewee!

Mr. Praline: “VOOM”?!? Mate, this story wouldn’t “voom” if you put four million volts through it! ‘Its bleedin’ demised!

Owner: No no! ‘Its pining!

Mr. Praline: Its not pinin’! Its passed on! This story is no more! He has ceased to be! Its expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! Its a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed it to the perch ‘it’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! Its off the twig! Its kicked the bucket, Its shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-STORY!!

Owner: Well, I’d better replace it, then. (he takes a quick peek behind the counter) Sorry squire, I’ve had a look ’round the back of the shop, and uh, we’re right out of other stories.

Mr. Praline: I see. I see, I get the picture.

Owner: (pause) I got a slug.

Mr. Praline: Pray, does it talk?

Owner: Nnnnot really.

Owner: N-no, I guess not. (gets ashamed, looks at his feet)

Mr. Praline: Well.

Owner: (quietly) D’you…. d’you want to come back to my place?

Mr. Praline: (looks around) Yeah, all right, sure.

Living World

‘The Living World in Guild Wars 2 is ArenaNet’s official term for changes to the game intended to bring the world of Guild Wars 2 to life. Each major game update includes NPCs, events, and sometimes new instances that tell the story of Tyria’s ongoing evolution. Although most of the Living World content has been temporary, these updates also have included permanent changes to the in-game world.’

So what is the point of RP’ing in a world that has been changed and denying it, Lion’s Arch was destroyed in a living world story.

RP…No its not…

GAMER: Yes it IS!

RP’er: No its not… we just need to RP it….

Called stretching imagination a wee bit too far!

Living World is a Dead World to some…

But denying the Living for the imagined past will lead to deadeningly complicated  gaming.

LOTRO: What to do next?

LOTRO: What to do next?

Opopa (1 legged RP burglar) finished Bree Anniversary event and doesn’t know what to do next!

LOTRO: Sunngiffu Vanity Quote from GK Chesterton

LOTRO: Sunngiffu Vanity Quote from GK Chesterton

G.K. Chesterton – ‘The Defendant’

I am struggling to write a narrative that explains Sunngiffu’s 3 week long absence from my Kin’s RP group….and she returns with a sparkling new outfit!

Curiousity didn’t kill the cat, Vanity did it!

Day 1 LOTRO RP: Late for the Party

29 Aug

Day 1

The Fellowship of the Secret Fire

Late for the Party

Sunngiffu had had a rough day…

Having escaped from bandits in Archet she had managed to find her way to Bree via Combe.

She had woken up in that cell, cold and naked, in the sense that her precious furs and leather had been removed from her, her daggers and bow as well. Her lucky rabbits foot was gone…well maybe it was not so lucky anymore and it was time for a new one.

Dressed in rags and assorted items of armour that she has since picked up, a real hotch potch…how she misses her warm fur cloak! The last bow she picked up is a definite improvement, stronger and less warped than that first bow scavenged from a bandit. For killing some piglets a farmer gave her a new short sword, basic but sharp and she also relieved a bandit of a nice dagger, too fine for him and passable for her.

Upon arriving in Combe she had sold some hides she had collected off wolves and boars that had dared to cross her path, she had not seen any trace of rabbits. With these silver and copper coins in her pocket she took a quick horse to Bree as at this moment Su wanted to think…to think she needed to drink and in Bree there was the Prancing Pony.

From the southern stable Su walked through Bree, past market traders and hurrying adventurers, some roaring by on horses other running as if their lives depended on it.

Twas a quiet night in the Pony which was strange, but then it was mid week and no bands were playing. The house minstrel was twanging only occasionally! A small group of impressively armoured adventurers were in front of the bar, Su squeezed by and quietly asked for a whiskey.

She was instantly drawn into a polite conversation with two of the adventurers, a huge armoured captain sort and a fine and elegant lady, both sported huge glowing weapons. The ‘captain’ was drinking water to the amusement of others and the ‘lady’ a mug of tea , which after it had cooled was thrown behind the bar with surprising nonchalance…strange people. Su, after trying to drink her whiskey before having being handed itmade her excuses, oddly tongue tied as if chatting was difficult for her! She headed into the back where instead of sitting on one of the benches chose to sit on the floor next to one.

The conversation was quiet and muted, she heard speak of a group of adventurers having been in earlier who were up to something, trying to organize some event, or quest. Su’s instincts latched onto this talk and she instantly decided that she would wait here in the Pony in the hope one or more of this group returned…

That and she needed to think…and to think she needed to drink and in the Pony there was a lot to drink!

Harlequin, Huntress and Calamity Jane! Tsu gets a RP sister…Sue

26 Aug

I had an idea to create a RP hunter for the kin’s, The Council of the Secret Fire new RP group, ‘Fellowship of the Secret Fire.” …wife permitting I will join them when it goes live next Wednesday!

OK to create a character from this…my starting point being: that this hunter likes to hunt [sic!] rabbits!

Race: Elf, Hobbit or Man?

Hobbit, er no thx (I think you either are or are not a hobbit liker and I am of the latter persuasion!)

Elf was tempted but after reading some great elf RP guides, the best: ANDARNES v3.0. I became put off by the obvious restrictions to where they could RP (some areas are difficult to explain why an Elf would be there and most importantly of all they are not exactly big drinkers!)

So Man it is!

Sex? [Eh up!]…No Male or Female?

Weird how inspiration plays out, my kin leader, Moondog, called me Sue the other day and I at first was a bit miffed as my kin name is Tsu…but hell that is my own fault so I decided that I would try and incorporate ‘Sue’ into this RP char…so I think female is the best option.

Name: amazing how long you can contemplate this one…

Anglo saxon: Sunngifu which meant “sun gift” from the Old English elements ‘sunne’ – sun and ‘giefu’

(Medieval Scandinavian: Sunniva, as in St. Sunniva, Irish heiress and relatives flees to Norwegian Island, upsets local Vikings by stealing sheep…er not clever…prays to God for savior…a landslide blocks relatives and her in a cave to protect them from the heathens…they all die in cave! Er ok….)

Ended up with Sunngiffu as Sunngifu was taken 😦

From where?

Dale…land of Bard, famous Archer, did contemplate it…in fact what put me off was the timeline, am unsure of how long ago that was…

Rohan, horse lord, er where is my horse…NO!

Gondor…er too stoney…sounds like Condor…no.

Bree…ok a local …I can do that…er not too close or I will have to be visiting home all the time…even better Archet…It burns down, the bandits can kill off the family, maybe I have a younger/older brother(s) a Captain who was away at the time…. I can RP the whole family!

Archet burns down during introduction…not so good but bandits have been in the area for some time. Parents were attacked and killed by bandits…something like that. – Rich girl living wild…CLICHÉ CLICHÉ CLICHÉ…well have a couple of days yet to sort out back story…

This is playing into ideas I have formed while researching this RP bio…wow the write up of the research of the bio is actually warping the bio!

Lets introduce the characters of Commedia dell’arte:

‘Commedia dell’arte (Italian pronunciation: [komˈmɛːdja delˈlarte]) is a form of theater characterized by masked “types” which began in Italy in the 16th century and was responsible for the advent of the actress andimprovised performances based on sketches or scenarios. The closest translation of the name is “comedy of craft”; it is shortened from commedia dell’arte all’improvviso, or “comedy of the craft of improvisation”.’

Sound like RP!

‘Commedia dell’arte has three main stock roles: servant, master, and innamorati (lovers), and the characters themselves are often referred to as “masks”, which, according to John Rudlin, cannot be separated from the character. In other words the characteristics of the character and the characteristics of the mask are the same. The servants or the clowns are referred to as the Zanni and include characters such as Arlecchino, Brighella and Pedrolino. Some of the better known commedia dell’arte characters are Arlecchino (also known as Harlequin), Pierrot and Pierrette, Pantalone, Il Dottore, Brighella, Il Capitano, Colombina, the Innamorati, Pedrolino, Pulcinella, Sandrone, Scaramuccia (also known as Scaramouche), il Somardino, La Signora, and Tartaglia.’

Now Harlequin… derived from Old English: Herla cyning, (Anglo Saxon link to name :))

‘Although this word used to be closely associated with the Italian commedia dell’arte, an improvised burlesque that flourished in the 16th-18th centuries (see above :)), English took it back from Old French Herlequin, where it had come to mean “a demon”. Old French had acquired it earlier from English Herleking, a word that came from Old English Herla cyning “Herla the king”. Herla was a mythical figure associated with the early Anglo-Saxon god, Woden.’

…leader of the Wild Hunt…

I can steal that!

My Hunter can be part of any wild hunt, a bit of a demon… has a dark side…has a harlequin like personality.

Picture inspiration: Deco figurines, these figurines are based on Diana or Artemis

‘In Roman mythology, Diana (lt. “heavenly” or “divine”) was the goddess of the hunt, the moon and birthing, being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals. She was equated with the Greek goddess Artemis.’

This gave me the idea to check out other huntress deities, there are quite a few. I especially liked Mielikki – Finnish goddess of the Forests but I felt she ended up being too much a protector of the flaura and fauna… Me likey the name!

This goddess side would maybe calm down the harlequin side and give more balance.

….not the real life American frontierswoman, but the fictional Doris Day version…

Er yeah. Doris Day…er I am just thinking of spicing up Sungiffu’s narrative with some choice quips from good old narrative…

‘Look at these! Silk, pure silk! I’ll bet her mother spun ’em!’

‘Make mine sarsparilly!’

‘Excitement? Why, I got more arrows in the back of that coach than a porcupine has got stickers!’

‘I got a strange feelin’ somebody’s bein’ hustled.’

I found the full script for more inspiration…

Build: slight, Hair: ashy, Eyes: bright green (well as bright as I could get them – no glow in the dark eyes…pity :(), Scars: none as yet

Biography: There are lots of links of how to do this and there are 2 schools of thought:

1: full background and story

2: details and description that add depth/character that the standard LOTRO imagery lacks…

I like the latter best but will still flesh out a backstory for myself…more thinking:

A small figure, just about ascertainable that it is a woman under the mismatched pelts…

Furs of indistinguishable origin which are patched together with leather armour…overall effect is a ‘Harlequin’ like blur of fur.

Piercing Green eyes peer out from under hood

A bit ramshackle and scruffy, in need of a wash… but not too smelly!

A large white rabbit’s foot swings from her neck on a simple silver chain.

Daggers compete for space with dead rabbits attached by leather twine to her belt.

She moves agilely, almost as if dancing.

Simple Bree lass who like hunting rabbit…

Likes the simple life of hunting, also like to eat and drink…living off the land…

Hyperactive and a little loopy, she like to dance and party and is a little wild!

Bit of an anarchist, a wildling, a member of the wild hunt, she lives to hunt.

COSMETICS: need the shared wardrobe…serendipitous, is included in this week’s LOTRO store sale 🙂
