LOTRO: Old LOTR Friends met in Trollshaws

8 Oct

(My 200th BLOG…needed to be EPIC thanks to LOTRO I can include references to The ‘Lord of the Rings’ a truly Epic book.)

‘I am sorry: sorry you have come in for this burden: sorry about everything. Don’t adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story.’

Bilbo to Frodo, The Fellowship of the Ring Book II – J.R.R. Tolkien

In LOTRO you can interact with major characters from ‘The Lord of The Rings’ and also the ‘Hobbit’…

Indeed in the past week I have riddled with Bilbo, strolled with Frodo (interrupted at the end by Sam), and helped out; Gandalf, Boromir (Captain quest involvement as well), Aragorn, Gimli (did not find any smelly socks…), and Legolas.

Merry accepted some found pipe weed…and Pippin…well he is there in Bilbo’s room and I am sure will do something…one day.

Elrond is still refusing to come out of his Library (really why put it on the 3rd floor!), is a major provider of quests and I have returned to this bookish elf beyond count…

But when this happens out of the blue, beyond expectations, it is always welcome.

Twice this week I had this experience…

I was not so shocked as to remember to take screenshots, although for the latter part I took a whole section…the adrenalin was pumping.

3 trolls from the Hobbit: Bert, Tom and Bill

I had come across these before in my wanderings but is a nice touch to create a quest that directs it out to others that may have missed it.

Sméagol or Gollum: The Skulking Creature quest line…

A Trap for the Creature instance at the end opens with your character waiting to see if the ‘skulking creature’ will appear and take the bait of fish you have collected…I was really surprised to see Sméagol hop across the water and b-line directly for the fish…He was as is his want talking to himself (text on screen!)…

then he takes off and you have to chase him down…yeah!

…running after Gollum… darn he gets away up a cliff and you have to take out an Orc.

Was this Sméagol’s cunning plan from the beginning?

The unexpected nature of this just made it so much more enjoyable 🙂

A lot of players suggest not bothering with Trollshaws, I find it great…especially if you really want to sink into the full LOTR experience…

I keep contemplating creating a tour agency that will take new players through LOTRO experiencing as much if not all of the LOTR references…a virtual holiday…LOTRO being LOTRO this vacation would last years…

I realize as a player of LOTRO I am already kind of on this vacation.

‘It is not our part here to take thought only for a season, or for a few lives of Men, or for a passing age of the world. We should seek a final end of this menace, even if we do not hope to make one.’
